What is a Pilgrimage?
A pilgrimage is a journey to a sacred place
for a spiritual purpose. A pilgrimage is much
more like a sacrament than a vacation or a
sightseeing tour. There is the outward and
visible sign that takes place when we journey
together as a community to the specific
geographical place. There is also the inward
and spiritual grace that we share as we
prepare ourselves for the journey and
experience the special spirituality of our
destination.

Why Canterbury?
Canterbury is an important part
of our heritage as Episcopalians.
For the past fourteen hundred
years, Canterbury Cathedral has
been the seat of the Archbishop
of Canterbury and is the Mother
Church of the worldwide Anglican
Communion. We recognize this by
carrying the Canterbury banner in
our processions on Sunday
morning.
Making this pilgrimage has not
only made us more aware of the
unique spirituality we share as
Anglicans, but has also given us a
personal sense that Canterbury is
"our" Cathedral home.
