Sjobor Hammer won First Place for her documentary,
Bones of Contention:  Battling for Human Dignity at the
Salina Indian Burial Pit,
at this year's National History Day
competition in College Park, Maryland.

Sjobor previewed her video and led a discussion at the
Sunday Morning Youth Forum on April 20th in
SJOBOR TAKES 1st PLACE AT NATIONAL HISTORY DAY!
preparation for presenting her entry at Kansas History Day,
where her first place finish advanced her to the national competition.

More than half a million students participate in the annual competition
nationwide.  They present in-depth research  on historical topics in the form of
documentaries, performances, exhibits, and papers that are judged by panels
of experts.

Sjobor is a student at Topeka High School as well as being active in the
Cathedral Choristers and youth program.  She is a worship leader for
Children's Chapel on Sunday mornings and made the pilgrimage to
Canterbury last summer.

She was presented with a $5,000 prize at the National History Day ceremony
for her first place finish.  She also received a $100 scholarship from the
Kansas State Historical Society for winning the Kansas competition.
